Wollongong, From Steel City, To Fibre Town

Now that New South Wales has won the right to host the headquarters for the governments new National Broadband Network, I have a radical idea.

Instead of putting it in Sydney, hows about we put it in Wollongong?

I know, why would you put the headquarters of the nations most important communications company in a town with barely 200000 people in it. Let's have a look a few of the reasons why shall we?

Public Sphere - From A Distance

Finally got some time to put down my thoughts about the Public Sphere event put on today by Senator Kate Lundy.

As someone who was attending and presenting from afar (well video presentation), it was an interesting experience. Thanks to the ANU, the Public Sphere event was streamed live, which meant that I was able to keep up with the conversation that was happening via twitter and interact both with other speakers and those watching my own talk. Very cool.

Wollongong Small Business Club Presentation

Last night was the monthly Wollongong Small Business Meeting, and I was lucky enough to be selected to give a short five minute talk on Knowledge Managment. I've loaded up the slides I used onto slideshare and whacked them in below.

It was a good evening, despite the fact that I was near the end of the evening not too many people left after the main talk. The questions were good and I hope that what I had to say helped those who were there.

Some Site Changes And Future Plans

Over the weekend I've been making some changes to the Collaborynth website. I've tidied it up a lot and removed a lot of the old cruft, bringing it back to its focus.

Thinkubator

Part of the redesign is the re-introduction of our Thinkubator services.

"A Thinkubator is an Incubator Of Think. A place, either in the real world or online where people gather and collaborate, creating new ideas and knowledge."

Internets For Not For Profits Postponed

Unfortunately due to a lack of interest I am having to postpone the Internets For Not For Profits presentation I was going to be giving on Monday.

This is only going to be a postponement and definitly not a cancellation. I'm looking at rescheduling for a month down the track and in that time doing a bit more to spread the word.

In the mean time if you want to catch up with me I will be presenting at the Wollongong Small Business Club on "Small Business and Knowledge Management" on Tuesday evening at the Rydges Hotel in Wollongong.

Site Upgrades

We're in the process of re-jigging some of our infrastructure at the moment, and one part that we're playing with is our site.

Over the next few days we'll be introducing new features, including the ability to sign up and purchase services such as our Thinkubator off the shelf Extranet service directly from the site.

In fact we'll be telling you more about Thinkubato in the next blog post.

Web2.0 - Taking Some Of The Marketing Out

When I'm talking to clients, one of the things I really try and avoid doing is breaking out into Lingua Marketing. That very special language spoken by sales and marketing which can bamboozle the best of us. I don't like it and I don't think it's necessary. Even worse is when I see very cool ideas succumb to the perils of Lingua Marketing, I tend to get annoyed.

One such cool idea - more a collection of ideas really - is the concept of Web2.0.

A New Name A New Direction

We've got a couple of announcements to make:

Firstly I must mention that we are now operating under the name "Collaborynth". Collaborynth is a made up term, however I like to think that it reflects on our ability to assist our clients as they move through the sometimes confusing laborynth of online Collaboration and Communication.

Secondly, soon we will be releasing a new line of hosting and Collaboration "products". I'm not going to let slip any details now but suffice to say, they're going to be both innovative and cost effective.
