CouncillorNet

What is a Councillor Network?

A Councillor Network is an on-line facility that allows Councillors to easily access information pertinent to their roles and to work together and discuss issues and subjects affecting their LGA regardless of geographical location. So long as they have internet access, they can participate.

What is CouncillorNet?

CouncillorNet is an easy to use and cost effective hosted Extranet or "Collaboration Space" designed for the creation and management of "Councillor Networks". Built using Open Source and Open Standards based technologies, CouncillorNet features an intuitive interface that allows new users to start interacting with the system with a minimum of training, and yet it features a very robust security regime, which access to each object within the CouncillorNet governed on a case by case basis.

How Can My Council Benefit?

There are a number of ways both your Council and Councillors can benefit from a CouncillorNet.

  • Your Councillors will have access to a  document library and Collaborative workspace no matter where they are so long as they have an internet connection
  • Your Council will not be required to install expensive software, nor will you have to open up internal systems to the outside world
  • You can specify the level of control you have over the day to day operations of your CouncillorNet.
  • The package is flexible, and can accommodate requests for extra space or bandwidth
  • Training will provided (on-line or face to face), to the Councillors and the nominated CouncillorNet manager.
  • Your CouncillorNet can be branded with your logo and can be given a sub domain to bring it under your Councils domain space.

Example:

Torma Council is a rural council with a large geographical spread. Councillors are being given laptops and mobile internet accounts in a bid to enable them to work with their geographically large wards (travel between towns and villages can take hours). In order for the Councillors to take full advantage of the new technology, they must be able to access Council documents from their location, however Torma Council does not want to open a potential security hole in their network to enable the Councillors to access the information they require.

CouncillorNet allows the Torma Councillors to access the information they require directly from their laptops. If the document they are seeking is not on the CouncillorNet, a simple phone call or email to the Council offices would see the required document uploaded to the CouncillorNet within minutes.

Our Facilities:

Our facilities are hosted within a data centre that has “Bank Level” security. Access is strictly controlled via a combination of biometrics, photo ID checks and PIN codes. There is on site security 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
